Keith McDonald
Syndicate Manager / Race Day Host
Right from a young age, the Thoroughbred industry has been a part of my life, with family members heavily involved from horse ownership, horse training, breeding and even as a race starter, the horse industry has always been a passion of mine.
A keen rugby follower and having coached at Representative and Premier club level for 16 years, the invention of Savvy Racing Syndicates was a natural fit.
I have been engaged in the corporate world for the last 13 years, mainly at a customer front level, this exposure has enlightened me to quality customer care needs.
I believe my passion for the Thoroughbred industry, Rugby and Customer care will ultimately result in the success of Savvy Racing.
Janice McDonald
Syndicate Manager / Race Day Host
Having joined the Mt Roskill Pony Club at 12 and riding show jumping and pony club events up until the age of 18, horses have always been a passion of mine.
Having a family at a young age ultimately resulted in a break away from horses, however we have recently purchased 3 acres and I currently have a miniature horse (Gypsy) and an Appaloosa filly (Poppy) keeping me busy.
Racing is a huge passion of mine and I look forward to the race day experience Savvy Racing will provide to its Syndicate owners.
Shane Crawford
Trainer
Based in Cambridge on 17 acres, Shane trains in partnership with former jumps jockey Kara Waters. Their Regal Farm complex is purpose designed and built to Shane and Kara’s requirements.
Regular high performers at Ready to Run sales, Shane’s experience and knowledge at identifying quality Thoroughbreds is well respected by fellow trainers.
Shane and Kara will train the “Chiefs” Syndicate.
Stephen Marsh
Trainer
Stephen Marsh is one of NZ’s most successful trainers. Gaining a Public Trainers Licence in the 2002-2003 training season, it was of no surprise that he would hit the ground running, as he was well attuned to the operations of a top-flight training establishment through the guidance of his father Bruce Marsh who trained in NZ before heading to Singapore.
Stephen Marsh Racing’s main goal is to better themselves each year, so far this is being achieved, each year the range and quality of horses continues to grow. They also boast having one of NZ’s best jockeys as their regular stable rider – Danielle Johnson.
Based in Cambridge Marsh Racing will train the 2BSavvy Syndicate horse Chiara.
Pam Gerard
Trainer
Pam joined with Mike Moroney and the Ballymore Stable in 2016
“Pam brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and horsemanship to the table and we are very excited to have secured her,” Moroney said.
Pam’s work with young horses is exceptional and the strike rate the stable is experiencing in Group or listed races places Ballymore as one of the leading NZ stables.
Ballymore Stables is based in Matamata and will take charge of the Savvy Racing Blues Syndicate.
