SAVVY RACING
Savvy Racing is proud to present this Burgundy x Fashion Forward yearling Colt in association with Ballymore Stables. The Colt will be based in Matamata and trained by Mike Moroney and Pam Gerard.
This Colt was purchased from the New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale on the 29th of January 2019.
Ballymore Stables offers a thrilling proposition to be involved in one of Australasia’s leading racehorse stables and to race exciting prospects to target classic races such as the Derby, the Oaks and the 1000 and 2000 Guineas.
Our aim is to identify and select yearlings that will be prepared and targeted towards those classic 3 year old races. We are particularly confident that we have selected the right individuals to be serious contenders, whilst our previous results on the track only reflect this.
His sire Burgundy (Redoute’s Choice), a three-quarter brother to multiple champion stallion Darci Brahma (Danehill), won five stakes races and his first three two-year-olds to the races all won. He sired New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Dijon Bleu and was Leading Second Season Sire last season.
From an unraced mare by high-quality sire Pentire, second dam, Maire Claire, by multiple champion stallion O’Reilly, was a very consistent and talented grey mare, winning six times from 1300m – 1600m, including the Kelt Memorial (Listed, 1400m), and stakes placed four times including second to Penny Gem (Pentire) in the Captain Cook Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m).
The colt has a good pedigree cross of Northern Dancer in his sire lines, and inbred to Wilkes on the dam lines.
“He’s a strong, good walking horse, and very well balanced,” said Mike Moroney. “We see him as a late two-year-old that makes into a lovely three-year-old.
“He has a really good temperament, walked around without a care, and certainly a colt that took our eye.
“Like Second Coming, there is a lot of Mill Reef (dam sire of Pentire) and plenty of his strength.”
This Colt is Karaka Million nominated.
“Let us be your hosts for the day”
